Disney blinks, won’t replace 35 Disney/ABC Television techs with foreign workers.
That means those folks won’t have to train their own replacements, before being cut themselves.
The New York Times story about the 15 threatened jobs in New York and about 20 in Burbank contrasts with what Disney just did at its DisneyWorld operation in Orlando – it replaced 250 back-office theme-park workers with cheaper immigrants brought here on visas. The optics were terrible, as DisneyWorld ticket prices top $100 a day.
Now the U.S. Labor Department is looking into outsourcing/working substitution situations at a California utility, and the heat is on about the topic in Washington. As for the technical workers at Disney/ABC TV, the Times says that without any notice, “the immigrants suddenly stopped coming to the offices...then [last Thursday], managers summoned the Disney employees with different news:
Their layoffs had been canceled.” One relieved worker says “We were told our jobs were continuing and we should consider it as if nothing had happened until further notice.”

too bad...it would have been a dynamite co-anchor duo...and Katie’s hiring for the anchor chair would have stopped all the stupid crap about Brian.
